At the 2025 International Symposium on Global Biosecurity Governance and Cooperation at Guangzhou Laboratory in Guangzhou, China, on 29 September, 2025, IPPNW-GLO Director Chuck Johnson participated as a panelist, alongside international and Chinese experts on “The Historical Development, Current Status, and Future Prospects of Global Biosecurity Governance”, presenting on the overlap between negotiations on nuclear weapons and other Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD), including Bioweapons, in particular in the Middle East, where a treaty is being negotiated for a WMD Free Zone. This development is key, since all of the few key countries that have not yet joined the Biological Weapons Convention, including Egypt, Syria, and Israel, are located in the Middle East region.
